I was almost too close for comfort when I shot this photograph of a towering winter wave off of Point Lobos. (To reassure viewers, I was actually in a rather safe spot and barely got wet -just a bit of spray – even though I was very close to these waves.)

Photographing Death Valley This Spring?

One of the best times to visit and photograph Death Valley is right about now and during the next few weeks. I’ve been there around the first of April during the past few years and may visit again this spring. If you are interested in wildflower potential, take a look at this article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. CalPhoto is another great source of information for those of you chasing spring wildflowers.

Photographed on an early morning July trip to Mono Lake during the summer of 2007. The location is at “South Tufa,” more or less the class spot from which to photograph Mono Lake in the early morning light, which on this day was made more interesting by the passing clouds above the very still water of the lake.
