The Golden Eagle Hotel was built by my wife’s Great Great Grandfather, James Ford. He built the hotel after his hotel in Virginia City, Nevada burned to the ground. Virginia City’s rough and tumble graf riddled days became too violent. He traveled back to San Francisco and built the golden eagle hotel. James also owned SF’s first stock yard. He then sold the hotel and traveled to Riverside, CA.

Very cool – thanks for sharing that! I wonder what he would think of the surroundings of the hotel today?
