I spent most of the day yesterday wandering the course of the prologue stage of the Amgen Tour of California in San Francisco, shooting over 400 frames. Sports photography is not my usual thing, but it is an interesting challenge – trying to catch quick action, intense cyclists pushing their limits, crowd scenes, and so forth. I plan to post some of these photographs over the next week or so.
(I did not track the names of all of the cyclists, so I’ll welcome email from anyone who can identify the riders in the photos.)

I gave the landscapist permission to attach on of my photos (better version here) to a piece describing my comments on an early post and photo by Dwight Jones. I related a story – that I hear is familiar to many photographers – of getting an interesting shot by means of some combination of accident, whim, and intuition.

I have a 4:00 a.m. date with my alarm clock – up and into the car for the drive to Yosemite Valley and back. I’m hoping to be there close to sunrise and then to find some colorful trees in the Valley and thereabouts.
