We interrupt our regularly-scheduled night photography posts for an important announcement…
… a copy of Avedon at Work in the American West by Laura Wilson… re-sparked my interest in Richard Avedon and portraiture. This morning I noticed that this show is actually on display, as we speak, just up the road at Stanford University (near Palo Alto, CA).
Wow! I had no idea. Stanford is “just up the road” from me as well. (I’m a faculty member at De Anza College in Cupertino.) I also was given a copy of this Avedon book recently and am fascinated by this project and the images that came from it.

Jeff Moody, whose work I’ve seen in his photo.net gallery currently has a show at a coffee shop right in my neighborhood: Monsieur Bean, located on Lincoln Avenue near Minnesota in the Willow Glen area of San Jose.
I walked down to the reception this evening. It was great to meet Jeff and his family and see his prints.
Jeff does some very nice work. I’m especially fond of his photograph of the Kern River, apparently in the fall season. He also has a very nice (aesthetically and technically) print of the Gehry/Disney concert hall in Los Angeles.
If you live in the South San Francisco Bay Area, why don’t you drop by and see for yourself.
