I was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco for 6 years retired army 1976.. Can’t count the number of times I took friends to Fort Point National Historic Site.

My orientation to the headlands was originally from the perspective of it providing great views back toward SF and also for hiking and similar. But the more I poked around the more I became intrigued by these historical sites. (In the past decade the San Francisco Opera did a production of Wagner’s “Ring” Cycle in which the set designs for certain sections were inspired by these old structures.
