Morning, San Francisco Bay. San Francisco, California. September18, 2007. © Copyright G Dan Mitchell.
On my way to Point Reyes I passed over the Golden Gate Bridge just after sunrise. Since it is only a short distance off the main highway I decided to drive up to the famous spot overlooking the bridge and see what I could see. Everything was quite gray when I got there, but I notice a bit of light far to the east across the bay and decided to stick around to see what would develop. The light gradually worked its way westward toward the bridge and I made this photograph by stitching together several images of the bridge and the bay.
Thanks, Jim. It is one of my favorites from that very popular vantage point. I got lucky with the particular lighting (mixed overcast with some clouds breaking up beyond the city skyline) and the timing of the boat coming through the Golden Gate.
You are right about the stitch lines – this version was more or less a first run test put together quickly right after shooting it. It is definitely a photo that I want to come back and spend some additional time on. And don’t think that your own San Francisco work hasn’t been a source of some inspiration for me.
Take care,
Dan
This is stunning! I really like the lighting and mood of this panoramic. I can still make out a couple stitch lines at this size. If you were able to work that out I think you’d have poster material with this photo.
