I wrote yesterday about a couple of technical issues that arose when I switched to this new theme a few weeks ago. I’m certain that I have now solved the problem that left photographs out of search results when using the search box on this site. I’m still getting some reports from people who don’t see the photographs in the daily posts of new images. (They may see the affiliate link image.)
I’m still working to get to the bottom of this. It seems like those who encounter this problem may be seeing the so-called “summary” of the posts rather than the full post. This perplexes me since I just double-checked and I have selected the option to send the full post content in the feed. In addition, I see the full content in my Google Reader versions of the feed.
However… there are two other places where I’m also seeing a version that does not include the images.
- The first is when I check via the RSS feature in my Apple OS X Mail program. (I don’t normally use this, but I used it as a test case earlier today.)
- The second is in the “Networked Blogs” posts that let the blog automatically post into my Facebook account. To be honest, I’ve seen others having problems with the Networked Blogs service, and I’ve been considering eliminating it.

Hi. Just thought I’d confirm that I have had no issues with the feeds I receive in Outlook. Photos have continued to come through with full text.
Thanks, Leslie. I’m starting to wonder… is this only affecting people reading the feed in the Safari RSS window and Apple’s Mail program?
I can see the pics fine. Using FeedDemon Lite 4.0.0.22 (Windows XP) syncing on a Google reader account. Exif data appears at the bottom of the post.
Thanks, John. I noticed the EXIF at the bottom of the feed, too. That is an oddity that I’m probably not prepared to resolve. I use a plugin that shows EXIF when the site visitor mouses over the main images in the post. Apparently the EXIF from that process ends up in the RSS somehow. I suspect that it isn’t a major problem, so I’m going to put that one on the back burner.
Take care,
Dan
David, I use Safari, but not the built-in Safari RSS reader. I’m increasingly suspicious that my WordPress theme is sending the summary rather than the post in its own feed. I _thought_ I checked in the right place to defeat that setup issue, but it is looking like I’ll have to dig a bit deeper.
Thanks for the update,
Dan
Dan,
I am using Safari as my RSS reader and do not see the images in the feed. The text of the entire post is there – not just a summary – but no pic. No biggie for me though, since I know that it is always worth my while to click through to the actual post on your site… where I can then enjoy your wonderful photography :)
David
I also use Google Reader in Chrome on Win XP Pro on my other PC and have not had an issue seeing photos.
I didn’t realize the lack of photos when performing a search was unintentional though. That issue appears to be resolved now too.
Thanks, Steven. That is encouraging. Though still a bit mysterious… ;-)
Dan
Dan, I can see the photos using Google Reader in Firefox 5.0, Win XP Pro.
