Another tree I had walked past many times without taking notice. On this morning, the backlit fog isolated the tree from its surroundings and I noticed its shape – and the broken branch – for the first time.

The Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a landmark on the Pacific Ocean Coast below San Francisco, located between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, and provides a dramatic meeting place between land and sea.
