The story: In early April 2006 I was returning from a photo excursion to Death Valley and passing through turbulent spring thunderstorms while driving across the lower Central Valley of California. I had stopped to photograph some interesting pipes lined up across the horizon – and as I returned to the car I saw this scene along the other side of the road.

The story: I “found” these rock formations on the ridgeline south of Mission Peak, a high point in the southeast part of the San Francisco Bay Area, and I return frequently to photograph them in various conditions. This photograph was made on a sunny September morning earlier this year.
