Another Site Formatting Experiment

You may have noticed that the last few “daily photographs” on my blog have appeared in a larger size, rather than in the clickable thumbnail format that I had been using. These photographs are coming from my Flickr Gallery – and if the experiment works I may continue this approach.

(Once I complete the ongoing work to rebuild my own photograph gallery you will again be able to find all of my archived photographs there.)

G Dan Mitchell is a California photographer and visual opportunist. His book, “California’s Fall Color: A Photographer’s Guide to Autumn in the Sierra” (Heyday Books) is available directly from him.

  1. Hi Charlie:

So far the vote is – not surprisingly! – unanimously in favor of larger images. I certainly prefer them, but I had to work out some issues about serving so many images in the larger sizes – issues with my hosting company. I think that I have a solution now that will work and not impact the performance at my hosting company.

I’m probably leaving for the eastern Sierra in an hour or so for another bit of fall color photography, though it looks like it may also include a bit of snow as well. Unless my next check of the current conditions scares me too much, I’ll be able to shoot up there in the late afternoon and evening today and then again tomorrow.

    Dan
