This is another of the “imaginary landscape” photographs. They all begin with the actual landscape, but then I treat the images freely, modifying them in a variety of ways, though always with the the original source material at least somewhat identifiable.
In this case I wanted to create a visual palindrome or a mandala-like image. The source material is a photograph of a small section of desert playa, where the flooded area dried in the sun, leaving patterns of cracked mud. I photographed just as new vegetation was emerging.
