Canon EOS 5D Mark II Price Drops to $1799

B&H has the Canon 5D Mark II body on sale for $1799 right now. If you have been holding out for a full frame body, this seems like a great opportunity. While the newer Canon EOS 5D Mark III offers some improved features that can make a difference to some photographers, for others the 5DII can perform essentially equally well. For example, those photographing subjects like landscape or architecture and so on will find that the 5DII produces image quality that essentially equals that of the 5DIII, and that they likely won’t miss the newer features. (I considered upgrading from my 5DII, but I decided that the 5DIII – as fine as it is – won’t provide compelling advantages for my photography.)

It is also worth noting that this makes the price of the 5DII barely more than 50% of that of the 5DIII!

Deals Page Updates – 9/6/12

I have updated the ‘Deals’ page on the blog with some new products and deals including:

  • A “ridiculous” price of $298 on a Canon G12 camera and a Pixma printer after a rebate.
  • A new promotion on Canon DSLRs and lenses, including bodies and camera/lens bundles
  • A very low price on the previous version 3 of Adobe Lightroom
  • The introduction of the new Fuji X-E1 mirrorless camera system.

Special Price on the Canon EFS 55-250 Telephoto Zoom at B&H

I just heard from site-sponsor B&H Photo that there is currently a substantial price reduction on the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens that amounts to about 40% off, if my estimate is correct. The lens normally sells for $255, but right now it is available for only $149. New owners of Canon cropped sensor DSLRs who want to expand their long lens shooting beyond what they can do with the EFS 18-55 IS kit lens, will find that this lens can extend their range considerably. If you have been thinking about this lens, this is a really great price!
