I’m Considering a Change to the Discussion Software – Perhaps Moving to Disqus?

Recently I ran a little experiment and replaced the built-in discussion/comment feature at my dan’s outside blog with the Disqus equivalent. The experiment seems to have gone well: people continued to post a few messages on that low-traffic site, there were no complaints, and Disqus seems to provide some interesting features.

With that test under my belt I’m considering making the switch here as well. It appears that previous comments will all be ported over to the new service and will still be available here – on the same pages if I’m not mistaken. If anyone has any warnings, concerns, or advice… now would be a great time to drop me a line or leave a comment!

Calphoto – a quick note

It looks like the Calphoto Fall Color in California page is back up and running with lots of updates. This has been one of the best California fall color sites for several years, and if you visit right now you’ll see lots of useful reports.

Update on the Epson 2200 and Snow Leopard OS 10.6 Problems

Earlier I wrote that installing Snow Leopard on my Macs instantly turned my Epson 2200 printer into a very large paperweight. It is completely unusable for quality printing now. Over the past few days I’ve been working to try to find out what is going on, whether there is a work-around, and what Epson recommends to resolve the issue.

I can now report that…

… the printer still doesn’t work and Epson is completely silent on the whole issue.

If you have a 2200 (or any of several other popular Epson printers of similar vintage) it is my recommendation that you should not upgrade to OS 10.6 Snow Leopard until this is sorted out – or you may well lose the use of your printer.

I’ve summarized some additional information about the situation in a comment that I have added to the original post.

Photography Gallery Update

I’ve made some significant changes over at my Photography Gallery, where I archive the photographs posted on this blog and elsewhere. The major change has been to switch to a simple layout that focuses more on the photographic images and, I hope, is a bit more logical to navigate. Let me know what you think!
