Our time on the Isle of Skye this past May was a combination of visiting some of the iconic locations along with just plain exploring. (I’m not against photographing icons if they are new to me… or if conditions are extra special.) On this day we did a bit of both. Before we ended up here we had taken a long route out to the tiny village of Elgol. We returned, stopped for a quick dinner and then (the sun sets very late there in May) decided that Neist Point might be a reasonable objective.
The location is pretty well known, an dI had already seen photographs of it. To get there you drive a pretty long distance on single-track, and all along the route we kept wondering if we’d get decent light out on the coast. There had been some nice light earlier in the day but, as happens in Scotland, it was looking more like rain now. We arrived to cloudy and very windy conditions. But since the odds are that we’ll never get back there we went ahead and walked out to the bluff to photograph the point’s magnificent cliffs, grassy headlands, and lighthouse.
