Our time on the Isle of Skye this past May combined visits to iconic locations. (I’m not against photographing icons that are new to me, or when conditions are extra special.) On this day we did a bit of both. Before we ended up here we had taken a long drive out to the tiny hamlet of Elgol. We returned, stopped for a quick dinner and then (the sun sets very late there in May) decided that Neist Point might be a reasonable objective.
The location is pretty well known, and I had already seen photographs of it. As we drove the long single-track route we wondered if we’d get decent light out on the coast. There had been some sunshine earlier in the day but, as happens in Scotland, it was looking more like rain now. We arrived to less than ideal cloudy and very windy conditions. Since the odds are that we’ll never get back there we went ahead and walked out to the bluff to photograph the magnificent cliffs, grassy headlands, the lighthouse, and the sea beyond.
