Sebastião Salgado in the NY Times

The New York times features a story on photographer Sebastião Salgado and his epic “Genesis” project. The article is accompanied by a series of ten of Salgado’s photographs. A quotation in the article caught my attention:

“There is no difference photographing a pelican or an albatross and photographing a human being,” he said. “You must pay attention to them, spend time with them, respect their territory.” Even landscapes, he said, have their own personality and reward a certain amount of patience.

Patience. I can relate to that.

Article Offers Four Basic Tips for Photographing Wildlife

Joe Decker offers a short list of tips for photographing wildlife, “Four Tips for Better Wildlife Photography,” at the Digital Photography School web site. I’m sometimes skeptical about short “4 tips” type articles, but each of Decker’s suggestions offers good advice that will be useful to folks trying to get better at this genre.

Quick Guide to Point Lobos

I frequently photograph at the Point Lobos State Reserve on the California coast just south of Carmel, and I’m in the middle of posting a series of photographs of this area that I made earlier this month. If you want a quick guide to the Reserve you could take a look at a short article by Tom Stienstra that was just posted at SFGate.

In the Queue

Having returned from my nine-day Sierra Nevada pack trip last week, I’m up to my eyeballs in photographs to review and work on. I’ve now picked off all the low hanging fruit (the photographs that seem to have immediate, obvious potential) and I’m now engaged in the more laborious task of going back through all of the images again and looking more closely at photographs that seem to have potential but which will take more thought and work.

I’ve posted a few of the backpack photographs already, and more should begin showing up here near the end of August.

A bit later I will post another product review. I’ve had the chance to use the Lowepro Nova 200 AW bag a few times this summer, and I’m anxious to use it a few more times so that I can post my report here. (This bag is designed more along the lines of a traditional camera bag, so it wasn’t part of my arsenal on the recent pack trip.)
