Old Doors, Bath

Old Doors, Dublin
“Old Doors, Bath” — Old doors in Bath, England..

If my memory is correct (no guarantees!) we were out for a walk in Bath — probably looking for something to eat — when I saw these remarkable weathered doors across the street. Their purpose remained a mystery to me — the doors were closed and there were no signs. It is hard to say if they are even still in use. But the distressed surfaces of the wooden doors got my attention, along with the odd set of colors — pink, virtually blood red, and black.

There are plenty of renowned, iconic landmarks in this city that are very old — much older, no doubt, than these doors. (Though I’m betting that the stone wall has been there more than a few years.) I’m struck by the differences in how such old things are treated. Some become well-loved icons, while others are torn down to make way for the new. And some appear to have been forgotten, just sitting there and gradually decaying.
