We made a brief stop in Chester, England last June during our six-week travels in Scotland, Ireland, and England. When I write “brief,” I mean a matter of hours! We had heard that Chester has interesting old buildings, a bit like Shrewsbury, so we scheduled our trains between the latter town and Liverpool to give us a few hours layover there. We had just enough time to grab a bite, walk a good section of the town walls, and visit the Chester Cathedral.
In truth, the cathedral visit was not really on our agenda. But as we passed by while walking along the walls it seemed like an interesting place to pause. It is a very interesting church, with a lot of history — I understand that it goes back a thousand years. The photograph features a subsidiary space and altar — not the main church.
