Photographing people is not a major part of my photography, and when I do it is more often along the lines of people in their environment rather than portraits. But every so often the mood hits, and I do a series of such photos. It happened a bit during our May visit to Dublin — perhaps because it was such a busy, people-filled city. This is the first from that visit, but there will be more.
In the same way that it can be hard for me to explain precisely what I see in a particular landscape photograph (often “I just know”), it is hard to explain what I like about this photograph. But I’ll try to drop a few hints. I like the direct, businesslike demeanor of the woman as she strides across the street. Her color scheme is a bit atypical, but that and the lighting help her stand out from the urban background. And how about those sunglasses?
