This spot and this view have long intrigued me. The lines and curves lead from the shoreline forest at left, past that talus-covered slope on the right, across the water to another peninsula, and finally to the massive face rising beyond. The personality of this view can change remarkably — I’ve photographed during storms, under the full moon, in direct sunlight.
I think many people miss this view, or only catch a quick glance as they drive past. It is located between two better known locations — the Tioga Pass entrance to the Yosemite high country and a more accessible parking area a bit further east where people often stop to look back at the lake. I’ve also found that to get what I consider effective framing of this view, you have to stand next to a roadway and place yourself in a very precise spot relative to the landscape.
