At the end of May and beginning of June we waked for a week through the hills of England’s Cotswolds district. Our route took us from town to town, and each night we stayed in civilized accommodations. Yes, this is a lot different that the Sierra Nevada backpacking that I’ve done for decades! This area is, it seems, vacation country for a lot of Britons, and some of those towns can be pretty busy. After a day walking the green hills and woods, it can be something of a shock to enter them.
Almost the entire route was through gently hilly country, with a lot of the walking being flat. With perhaps one exception, the climbs and descents were gentle. Besides the towns, the walks went through roughly three kinds of country. We passed through forest woodlands, sometimes interspersed with meadows. We walked across and around countless sheep pastures. And we often walked past and through farms, like this large plot where wheat was growing.
