In mid-May made a quick one-day run up to Yosemite and back to get reacquainted with the waterfalls – at that time in full spring flow – and see the Valley coming back to life again after winter. In the evening I found myself at Glacier Point watching another stunning Sierra Crest sunset. This photograph was made as the very last light touched the top of Mt. Clark.

  1. Rob, if you are out this way in very late September – verging on early October – you might try to get over to the southern portion of the eastern Sierra for the aspen color. It can be quite spectacular, and there is a chance that it may come a bit early in this drought year.

  2. It’s fun to work a scene, season after season, like that. Nice work.

Looks like we are out to Vegas in late September, so I’ll be trying Red Rocks, and maybe Death Valley if I can talk my “passenger” into that ride. Thanks for the Yosemite and Death Valley advice earlier. The upside is I’ll be back home east for peak foliage hopefully.

  3. Pre-Dawn Sky Above the Clark Range - Glacier PointRob, you are too kind! :-)

But I am pretty happy with it, especially since it is a very frequently photographed view and, at least in my opinion, it captures something of the feeling of that last moment of light on an early summer evening.

By the way, I’ve been “working” that tree seen on the right in this shot for the past year or so. The photo I’ve included in this post is from a similar spot, except shot at dawn late in the season last year.
