Cubist Wall

Cubist Wall
“Cubist Wall” — A wall of rectangles and colors, Cork, Ireland.

When we travel we like to combine the new with the familiar. That was true on our recent trip — the Scotland portion was an extension of the familiar, and Ireland was new to us. That’s right, this was our first visit to the Republic of Ireland. We know there is much, much more to Ireland than we could see in a week, but on this trip we focused on three cities: Dublin, Galway, and Cork. This photograph comes from Cork.

Of the three, based on what we saw, Cork impressed us as the most “regular” city. Dublin of course has a ton of history, and a kind of fun, busy edge. Galway feels more intimate and less “citified” — though it has its share of stuff geared to tourists. The parts of Cork we visited, on the other hand, felt more like a place where Irish people live and less like a place where tourists go. I’ll share more photographs from this city going forward, but the structure and colors of this building caught my attention on one of our walks.
