We had our first close-u view of the Cuillin Mountains when we arrived on the Isle of Skye. Driving onto the Isle from the east, the road loops southwest a Loch snort, then heads north between the Red Cuillin Mountains, before turning back to the southwest to loop around these peaks. Of course, they are big enough to be visible from many places on and near to Skye, too.
This is the view we saw as we backtracked along this route to leave Skye. The route heads south after departing from the town of Portree, and as it tops a small rise this valley was spread out in front of us, with the skyline dominated by the Red Cuillins and the Black Cuillins. As was typical on our visit, the blue skies were being overtaken by darker clouds and it was beginning to rain off to our left. But here, the sky opened beyond the clouds and the they glowed in the backlight and moist atmosphere.
