So, just a few days after sharing a post in which I mentioned that I photograph a lot of subjects that are not icons… here is a photograph of an icon! This scene in the town of Portree, Isle of Skye is definitely in that iconic category. I’m pretty sure that if you search (or as the media tells me I should now say, “search up”) “Portree that this scene will come up. It is an attractive row of colorful buildings, and their reflection in the water adds to the effect.
Somewhere I saw a sort of comic “map of every European city.” This one map included generic things like busy market, famous museum, pedestrian bridge, historic district, river front, edgy part of town… It was pretty funny, and also surprisingly accurate. In recent years, I think that the “row of colorful buildings” has started to appear as a local icon in more and more cities. We saw something close to it in Galway, and there’s a famous set of them in San Francisco.
