We were out for a walk in Shrewsbury, and as we crossed a bridge over the River Severn we spotted this swan family in the water. The trick is usually to get critters to align themselves with the rest of the scene in a way that is compositionally interesting and makes them the primarily focus. Darned birds don’t always cooperate! But this time I only had to wait a moment — and then photograph quickly — for them to cross the river in the foreground.
We spent a few days in Schrewsbury, arriving with no specific plans — no big sights to see, no particular places to go. Central Shrewsbury is known for its many very old buildings, including some are many hundreds of years old. Of course, that’s not all that is in this town, and on this day our walk took us out of the old central area, across a bridge, and into an area with a more modern appearance.
