This is another “quiet” photograph — no brilliant colors, not really an iconic location. It simply captures, I hope, something of the feeling of being in the High Sierra as the day winds down, the light warms as sunset approaches, and begin to stretch across the landscape. It is a beautiful time of day — everything slows down, it gets quieter as people go to camp for dinner.
I mentioned that this is not exactly an iconic spot or scene, but there is a bit of a story behind that peak in the distance. It is called Mammoth Peak. You can be excused if that brings to mind a certain California ski resort. Bt that is a different Mammoth Mountain, on the other side of the range a ways south. The ridge in this photograph is part of Yosemite’s Kuna Crest.
