Our May visit to Aberdeen, Scotland marked a transition on our trip. We had just completed a week-plus driving tour of Northwest Scotland, where we spent a lot of time in rural and wild areas. After returning our rental car in Inverness, we went straight to the station and boarded a train to Aberdeen, where we planned a quiet stop before heading on to Ireland. Why Aberdeen? Patty had visited the city decades ago when she went to the UK for an international orchestra festival. She wanted to return and see what she might remember of Aberdeen.
We went there with no set plan, aside from staying in nice lodgings for a couple of nights and having a vague notion of walking around the central city. We spent our one full day there doing just that — walking out the front door of our hotel and heading “downtown.” There we… wandered. We went wherever it seemed interesting, walking along a Main Street, but also a whole lot of random backstreets. I made this photograph along one of those streets. The little “Max Headroom” sign caught my attention — I’m old enough to recall the “Max Headroom” TV show, but the cool, blue coloration of the door and its surroundings also interested me.
