For this photograph I was back at one of my most familiar haunts, the Calero Park south of San Jose, California. This area of oak/grassland is seemingly far less “exotic” and distant than some of my other subjects, but it is a favorite of mine. On this spring early morning hike I was perhaps no more than 10 minutes up the trail from the parking lot when I found this beautiful light along side a trail I’ve hiked scores of times.

Hardly need to identify the subject of this photograph! It was taken from that place – the Wawona Tunnel View. Although it is nearly impossible to create a new view of this scene, I’ll mention a few things that are different from the usual “line up with other photographers and photograph the sunset” shots. This was done with a rather long lens – shot with the 100-400mm, it is morning, the actual light was quite hazy and filtered.

As to why anyone would shoot this spot… well, there is a reason that everyone stops and gawks from this spot… ;-) Sometimes I stop there as I pass by and don’t bother to even get the camera out.

What’s New… and Where to Find It

Just a reminder about the process for placing my photographs into this blog… As I make photographs I upload them to my gallery and then place the photos from the gallery into blog posts that appear on this page. In order to keep the photo per day flow going, I often am building a queue of upcoming photos that is a month or two “deep.” For example, the photos that are appearing right now were taken nearly two months ago, and the photos I’ve done most recently (I was in Seattle last weekend) won’t show up in blog posts until the end of July at the earliest.

If you are curious you can hit the gallery link and get a sneak peak at what I’ve been doing before those who just follow the blog get a look. In addition, there are some photographs in the gallery that don’t get posted here at all. (The six small images in the left sidebar are direct links to the most recent half dozen photographs placed in the gallery.)

Just thought you might like to know.
