A steep street in downtown San Francisco with a sign for “Osgood Place.”
I came across this photograph from last summer while going over old raw files again this week. To be honest, I barely remember shooting this scene, and the only hints about the precise location are the “Osgood Place” sign (referring to one of the buildings) and the base of the Transamerica Pyramid beyond the end of the street.
When I saw it this week, something caught my attention about it. I like the vantage point that roughly as high as the third story of buildings near the bottom of the street – this does some slightly odd things to perspective lines. I also like the various types of red to brick-red coloration and the row of steel posts along the narrow sidewalk. The subtle green beer bottle against the first post at the right is a touch I like, too. ;-) It is surprising that I managed to take a photograph of this area of San Francisco that includes no people.
(Update: Thanks to some folks who saw this photograph elsewhere, I have learned that the street is also called Osgood Place.)

The archway door on the first building on the right is not there in 1972. But if you study the street closely(your photo and Google Maps), you will see this is it.
Go to YouTube and type in “Streets of San Francisco pilot”. The title will come up as TSOSF S01E00 The Streets of San Francisco Pilot w/time of 1:38:56. The whole episode/movie is on there. The scenes are at 50:45 and 1:04:35.
Nice photo. That stretch of Osgood Pl. has a little spot in cinema history. That street was used as a location for the pilot episode of The Streets Of San Francisco. Actor Robert Wagner pulls his yellow Jaguar to the right side of Osgood at 55 Osgood Pl. which is the 2nd. building on the right in your photo with the yellow façade. At that time back in 1972, the building was a nightclub. The bottom basement window was actually a door/entrance back in 1972, which has since been converted to a window.
That’s cool information! I’m going to have to go find some old episodes and look for it now.

Great photo!
We use to live in the brick building before they remodeled it.
From 1972 to 74 ? Some of our best years.
Ted Kakula was our landlord.
Best,
