I have previously written about my fascination with the very old and often very large trees that we saw on our spring weeklong walk in England’s Cotswolds. Many of the large trees stand apart, often in open areas or in rows between fields and pastures. This one, however, stood close to a managed forest of smaller trees, which I presume are destined to become lumber when they grow large enough. We passed by here on our walk, on a day that would eventually bring some rain.
Of course, for me the tree brings back other memories of this day and our walk. It had started out sunny, but by midday we saw (and occasionally felt) some rain showers in the area. The clouds continued to thicken as we walked, and we came to this spot just after reaching the high point of the day’s walk. It was shortly after this that the weather deteriorated and it was time to suit up in our rain gear.
