This was a bit of an opportunistic photograph. If I recall correctly, we went out looking for coffee and some pastry (or was it lunch?) in Bath. We heard about a little place that was supposed to be popular and headed that direction. It was just a bit outside the main tourism areas of the town, and we were starting to see some places that were a bit less oriented to out of town visitors.
This stone wall was near our destination. (Eventually, after eating, we followed a staircase that led through the wall to a street further up.) I’m intrigued by little scenes like this. In part I imagine what they might have looked like long ago when the wall and the doors were new. But I”m also fascinated by the patina of age that has accumulated — the very weathered doors, the darkened stones, the plants growing from cracks in the wall.
