River Severn, Shrewsbury

River Severn, Shrewsbury
“River Severn, Shrewsbury” — Willows line the River Severn, Shrewsbury, England

We spent a couple of days in the quaint English town (center) of Shrewsbury this past June. After close to three weeks of exploring Scotland and Ireland followed by a weeklong walk in the Cotswolds, we had several weeks left to visit various English towns and cities. Shrewsbury sounded like a slightly lower key stop compared to our previous stay in Bath.

The old central town features a lot of very old buildings — which explains the “quaint” part of my description above. (“Quaint” can also mean “a bit run down,” and our lodgings in Shrewsbury, above a conveniently located pub, fit that description.) Knowing that “old Shrewsbury” wasn’t all of Shrewsbury, we walked across a bridge spanning the River Severn to see what else the place had to offer.
