Yes, fun with Photoshop. I was set up by the shore of Mono Lake, camera on the tripod and set to operate in burst mode, as hundreds of seagulls flocked nearby. I assembled this image from the half dozen frames I shot as this gull obliging crossed on a rising curve from right to left.
I’ve had relatives be less cooperative with my attempts to take their photo… ;-)

As I drove up the Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Cruz and San Francisco last weekend I came across a huge flock of gulls on a beach where a river flows into the ocean. As if they had just discovered an amusement ride for birds, the gulls dropped into the creek, rode it to the edge of the surf, took off to fly a loop back up the creek, and did this over and over.

This group of birds was near (where else?) Bird Island at the Point Lobos reserve just south of Carmel. Quite a few of them had landed and seemed to be hunkered down in the face of strong winds from an incoming Pacific storm.
