Two spring trees in the mist with newly sprouted grasses underneath – Motherlode near Drytown, California. This was a tough photography day. It was raining lightly and the light was quite flat due to the heavy overcast and fog, and although I spent hours “on the prowl” I only managed to shoot this one scene.

Old brick wall with arches, door, and windows in a building now used as a historical museum. This building is quite old, but inside this building is another older building that dates to the mid-1800s near the founding of the shipyard.

The precise spot is near the end of a large dry dock and not too far from the Mare Island Museum. This simple minimalist landscape juxtaposes the horizontal form of coastal fields and meadows with interesting cloud formations in the wake of a late-winter storm along the California coast.

The location is just outside of the small coastal town of Davenport, just north of Santa Cruz on the coast between San Francisco and Monterey – an area that combines coastal scenery with farmland.
