Another Epic Sierra Round Trip

The time was ripe this weekend for a visit to Yosemite Valley and perhaps other places, so a two-day photo trip was in order. As is sometimes the case when I do these short up-and-back runs, some things happened according to plan and others, uh, evolved.

I left the SF Bay Area at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The plan was to head to the Valley early and then possibly get on the wait list for a camp spot with the rest of the plan being to shoot spring subjects there for a couple days. Continue reading Another Epic Sierra Round Trip →

Aspens with their last autumn leaves agains the backdrop of a cliff, North Lake.

This is a photograph from last fall’s autumn color photography in the eastern Sierra Nevada. This photograph was made on a blustery and snowy morning at North Lake, in the area above Bishop, California. I had finished shooting some of the more typical North Lake autumn scenes and was wandering back along the road when I started seeing the nearly bare aspens against the roadside cliffs.

A ‘Thank You’ to Jim M Goldstein

Late last year, photographer (and blogger and podcaster) Jim M. Goldstein came up with a great way to reconnect photographers and fans of photography with the experience of the print – “Buying Prints from your Favorite Photographers.”

I was very pleased with Jim’s interest in my work, and with his selection of one of my favorite recent photographs:

Since I am a fan of Jim’s work as well, we decided to trade photographs and I ended up copy of his very lovely and mysterious “Primitive Coastline” seascape. And, yes, I’ll post my image of his framed photograph here before long. We met back on a rainy winter evening during the holidays and had a chance to “talk shop” a bit, and it was a joy not only to see his work but to meet him.

Yesterday Jim posted a photograph of my now-framed photograph at his blog, along with some very kind and much appreciated words about my photography.

Morning light on the shoreline of Fletcher Lake in the Yosemite National Park backcountry near the Vogelsang High Sierra Camp.

Yet another in the series of photographs of Fletcher Lake on an early September morning as the sun was just rising above the shoulder of Fletcher Peak. This cove is at the upper end of the lake near the inlet stream flowing down from Townsley Lake.
