Self-portrait with Lee Friedlander poster in the window of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. (I hope someone sees the humor… knowing a bit about Friedlander and his work should give you a clue or two.)

Window on the Desert, Rhyolite School

Looking through a window in the Rhyolite School ruins towards the distant desert. Rhyolite is an abandoned ghost town, and this school building is largely in ruins.

While Rhyolite and this school building are not in Death Valley National Park, they are part of the greater Death Valley area. The terrain visible through the window in the photo is the Amargosa Valley and Amargosa Range beyond, both of which are in the eastern section of the park.

Exteriors walls of the ruins of the Rhyolite School. Rhyolite, Nevada. Oddly, the school seems to be one of the better preserved structures in this Nevada ghost town – even the banks have suffered more over the years. Not to suggest that it is in great shape – the roof is gone along with all of the windows and doors – but the walls are still standing for the most part.
