The water was extremely smooth on this somewhat hazy morning along the Embarcadero near the San Francisco Giants’ ATT Park.

(A note: It was something of a pleasant surprise when this photo emerged on the home page from the queue this morning. So much has happened in the last month or so – daughter’s wedding, moving a son from Seattle to the SF Bay Area, conclusion of another school year, etc. – that the day I made this photo seems like it might have been a year ago!)

A waterfront scene near the Embarcadero in San Francisco, California.

I often go to The City and wander along the Embarcadero and nearby areas with my camera. This photograph was made near the boat landing right behind ATT Park – home of the Giants. There are often large ships anchored out beyond this part of the San Francisco shoreline, and they are a continuing subject for me.

In early March I headed out to the California coast between San Francisco and Santa Cruz for an afternoon of random coastal shooting – I was probably thinking seascape, hoping for some interesting fog and clouds, but I stumbled across a large group of wind surfers just north of the coastal town of Davenport.
