Another Mission District street scene – a matter of spotting an interested set of urban storefronts, composing the shot, and then watching for the right person or persons to walk through the frame. I’m fascinated by the complexity of these urban scenes and by the individuality of the storefronts in this type of place – each one seems to reflect something about the surrounding community and the people who live there. In this one certain compositional elements and color relationships also caught my attention.

A pair of very brightly painted yet terribly dilapidated doorways near the border of Chinatown and North Beach, San Francisco, California.

A question: If you are wandering about in The City (or the city ;-)  and carrying a camera, how can you not photograph something like this?

These wildly painted yet badly dilapidated doors are on a relatively nondescript street more or less along the boundary between Chinatown and North Beach.

Ground growing False Solomon’s Seal plants and flowers after morning rain – along Highway 120 in Yosemite National Park, California.

As I entered Yosemite on Highway 120 during the first weekend of June I stopped at one of my favorite dogwood groves along this road. The diffused light from overcast and the intense colors from early morning rain created striking colors in this grove – and I was surprised to find that there were still many dogwood blooms. While wandering around looking for just the right blossoms I happened to look down and notice a lot of lush new undergrowth including this little patch of false solomon’s seal.

Old brick wall with arches, door, and windows in a building now used as a historical museum. This building is quite old, but inside this building is another older building that dates to the mid-1800s near the founding of the shipyard.
